Precision tinted lenses
Trial lenses are assembled during the appointment to allow patients to try the selected filter combination under different conditions. Tolerance for a UV filter is also tested. If tolerated, it is added to the lenses.
While both coloured overlays and coloured lenses can improve reading fluency, their optimal chromaticities differ. As such, the overlay colour cannot be used to select the lens colour.

Using this device, the three parameters of colour – hue, saturation and brightness – are adjusted independently to determine, very precisely, our patients’ unique and optimal colour for precision tinted lenses.
The tint blend formula is sent to Cerium’s specially designed laboratory in the UK and a pair of CR39 lenses are dyed to exact specifications using special ophthalmic tints.
These dyes have been developed to ensure a filter with a smooth spectral transmission curve. This facilitates the transition from one light source to another and provides filtering for the correct light wavelengths.
These precision medical tints are not to be confused with fashion tints that are made to look a certain way and are not designed to perform a specific task of filtering wavelengths of light.
If you find that the benefit of your lenses changes over time, you may need a tint update. This could be caused by brain changes, healing or new injuries and, lead to a need for different accommodations such as the removal of the grey tint or a reduction in the saturation of the colour.
